Quad bikes make great off-road vehicles, whether you ride them for pleasure or doing agricultural work. Although many people consider quad bikes and ATVs to be purely off-road vehicles, they can actually be used on public roads too, provided they meet the correct requirements, such as having quad bike insurance in place. In order for a quad bike to be legal to ride on public roads, it must meet the following criteria:

  • Be registered with the DVLA
  • Have front and rear licence plates
  • Be taxed
  • Have a valid MOT certificate (for quad bikes more than three years old)
  • Be insured

At number 10 is the Quadzilla Aeon Cobra Supermoto 400. It has a 346.4cc engine, so it has plenty of power and is suitable to be driven on public roads as well as off-road. The road tread tyres and hydraulic suspension mean that it has excellent handling too.

At £7,399, it is on the more expensive side but if you can afford it, it is an excellent all round bike.

9. Segway Snarler AT6 S

Best of Segway’s line of quad bikes and ATVs, is the Snarler AT6 S. It has 570cc, single cylinder engine, which provides plenty of power and makes it ideal for use on public roads. It also has excellent braking and steering as well as LED lights, a digital display and phone connectivity.

The Snarler AT6 S is available for £7,999, which although is more expensive than some other models we’ll be covering, is still reasonably priced for a quad bike with its specs.

8. CForce 850XC

Next up is the CForce 850XC. The newest version of this quad bike features an improved engine, allowing for more power. It also has a very striking design, making it a great choice if aesthetics are important to you. The rear trailing arm suspension also ensure that the 850XC provides a very comfortable riding experience.

If you’re interested in the 850XC, you can get it for £8,249.

7. Polaris Sportsman XP 1000

Polaris Sportsman XP 1000

In seventh place is the Polaris Sportsman XP 1000. It has a 952cc engine, making it one of the most powerful quad bikes on this list. As well as having a lot of power, it also has some fantastic features such as a digital gauge and speedometer as well as 680kg of towing capacity.

Overall the Sportsman XP 1000 is an excellent choice of road legal quad bike. It will set you back £16,199, which certainly makes it on the more expensive side but it’s a great model for those who can afford it.

6. Loncin LX300

At number 6 is the Loncin LX300. This is a very affordable model yet still packs a punch thanks to its 271cc engine and 23hp, making it powerful enough to use on public roads. It has some good specs in addition to its power, such as a digital dashboard display, LED headlights and a front winch.

You can get the Loncin LX300 for £3,832, making it one of the cheapest quad bikes on this list.

5. Yamaha Grizzly 700

Up next is the Yamaha Grizzly 700. This bike has a 686cc MK II engine, giving it plenty of power. It’s also one of the most feature-packed quad bikes on the market, with switchable driving system, a large carry and towing capacity and nitrogen-powered suspension. These features make it an extremely versatile and capable model.

The Grizzly 700 goes for £14,520, so it’s definitely on the more expensive end but it would make a great choice for those who have the budget for it.

4. Suzuki KingQuad 750XP

The Suzuki KingQuad 750XP is up next. This is a great all-rounder quad bike that has some impressive features, such as four wheel drive, a 600kg towing capacity and LCD dash display. It’s also has a striking design and you can get it in either red or green.

3. Yamaha Kodiak 700

At third place, is the Yamaha Kodiak 700. It has a 686cc engine, giving it plenty of power and the compact chassis and padded seat make for a very comfortable and smooth riding experience. It also has a towing capacity of 600kg, making it great for agricultural use.

It costs £12,720 new and would make a great choice of quad bike for road use.

2. Honda TRX520 Foreman

The Honda TRX520 Foreman is our runner up road legal quad bike and for good reason. It has a liquid-cooled 518cc engine, giving it plenty of power and the almost 600kg of towing capacity means it’s excellent for agricultural work as well as for road riding.

The TRX520 Foreman will set you back £10,180.

Yamaha YFM700R Raptor

In first place is the Yamaha YFM700R Raptor. It has a 686cc 4-stroke engine as well as 22 inch tyres, which make it a great bike for use on all terrains. It comes in racing blue or Yamaha black, both of which look great. It’s also very fuel efficient, making it a very practical choice.

You can get the YFM700R Raptor for £11,250, so while it’s on the more expensive ends for road legal quad bikes, it would still make an excellent choice.
